Day 1
By Alasdair
Struggling out of bed at 8 o'clock (ish) we had to search the boat from fore to aft for coffee, finally tracking it down in the skippers cabin, and appropriating it for group use. The skipper and his crew turned up sometimes later, and we headed out.
The first dive of the day was the Koln, a light cruiser lying in 36m. Having had the foresight the have sorted buddy pairs last night, a somewhat unique occurrence on a UKRS trip, we jumped in two by two and dropped down the shot line. It was just about now that the inaugural loss of the Jens Kit Loss Award occurred, if your diving the Koln in the near future there is a UK400 about 6ft from the shot line. Most of us then turned left and headed towards the bows, except for Jason and KeithS who turned right and failed to find all three (really big) guns. Despite turning right (towards the stern) they managed to end up at the bows anyway, how odd!
The second dive of the day was the Gobernador Bories, one of the Burra Sound block ships, lying in in 16m. We dived this in the middle of a 2 knot current, and spent the dive dashing between the sections of the wreck, or for the more adventurous, inside it.
The skipper still doesn't seem to have noticed we've nicked his coffee...
