UK.REC.SCUBA : UKRS Scapa 2000 : Trophies

Yesterday we were running just the normally awarded AA Kit Breaking Award. However, due to other happenings and a complaint about the corruption of the principles behind this award the committee have decided that a second separate award should be inaugurated. We will therefore be tracking the progress of both of these hotly contested awards on this page as the week progresses.

The Alasdair Allan Equipment Trophy

We have decided to formalise the running of this competition with a simple points scoring systems as follows -

1 Point	Damaged, bit fell off but still servicable.
3 Points	Damaged but usable after a repair of some description.
5 Points	Broken beyond all usage.
Double Points	For breaking somebody else's gear.

The following incidents have so far been deemed acceptable for inclusion in this contest (in chronological order) -

AA	Dropping of a digital camera whilst on the ferry. This resulted in repairable damage to the battery compartment.	3 Points
SNK	Assistance given to AA in the above incident.	6 Points
AA	Dropping of a back-up dive torch scattering bits all over the deck and chipping the reflector.	1 Point
MS	For mistaking the freezer for the fridge and freezing solid the groups daytime food supply.	1 Point
KS	For dropping his Cochran computer and breaking the plastic guard.	1 Point
KL	Total failure of the download of the Aladins to the laptop, due to a memo mouse fault. Repair attempted but deferred until our return.	3 Points
AA	For breaking himself! A perfectly executed pratt fall over the step to the living area resulted in some minor repair before the equipment was serviceable again.	3 Points
BM	Testing the design limits of his home splicing and the theory that a stage cylinder only needs one attachment point instead of the traditional two.	3 Points
JP	Contents gauge helping to remove the contents of his back gas.	5 Points
BM	Broken fin strap	3 Points
KS	Repeating the AA pratt fall but without the blood.	1 Point
AA	Broken mask	5 Points
SC	Broken mask	5 Points
AP	Putting his twinset onto SC's mask.	10 Points
BM	Manifold leaking (fixed)	3 Points

The Jens (Digs) Equipment Loss Trophy

Similar to the Equipment trophy a simple points scoring systems is used as follows -

1 Point	Lost/dropped but retrieved by buddy.
3 Points	Lost but retrieved by boat or another dive team.
5 Points	Total loss.
Double Points	For loosing somebody else's gear.

The following incidents have so far been deemed acceptable for inclusion in this contest (in chronological order) -

JS	Donation of a UK400R to the equipment store known as The Koln	5 Points
SCT	For the ascent technique of deploying both the DSMB and the reel to the surface without the divers. (Recovered by the boat)	3 Points
KL	Near loss of the famous UKRS dive flag. (Not an actual loss, but point awarded due to the importance of the equipment in his charge).	1 Point
SCT	Carrying on the tradition of the diver and the DSMB being two unattached items Steve managed to loose the DSMB outright out of the pouch.	5 Points
JP	Jettisoning of a reel after carrying it on the dive and getting it all the way back to the dive ladder.	5 Points
AA	For seizing the opportunity presented by JP and donating the reel to the Kronprinz Wilhelm equipment locker whilst assisting him back to the boat .	10 Points
JC	Dive knife on the James Barrie	5 Points
AP	Himself - recovered by boat	3 Points
JS	Dive watch - not seen since the first day	5 Points
